Less than 24 hours apart...

The news regarding the supposed thaw between Turkey and Armenia continues. Hurriyet and Azerbaijan's APA are just two of many more sources reporting that there have been ongoing talks between Yerevan and Ankara about improving relations, and potentially opening the border. Of course, it seems generally accepted that a lot depends on Obama's next move. Nalbandyan continues to deny most of what is being reported in the news. Of course, this isn't a new tactic for the regime - denial and mixed messages beget confusion, hopelessness, and disinterest.
The Public Radio of Armenia website reported most recently on the potential thaw on 3.30.2009 at 16:22. Three articles and less than 24 hours later, 3.31.2009 at 10:52 is the article entitled: PACE positively assesses Armenia’s implementation of Res. 1643. Coincidence?

APA has an article quoting Ross Wilson, former US ambassador to Azerbaijan and Turkey. In the article, he is quoted as saying: “I think what is critical in that complicated part of the world that try to put together some of the building blocks that produce peace. Peace for the relationship between Turkey and Armenia, resolution perhaps between Azerbaijan and Armenia on Nagorno Karabakh conflict, be able to reach to move forward." The quote is out of context, clearly. But I think it points out what is truly important to those who "deal" with these issues. Principles such as Peace and Stability apply only when convenient.
Not so different from the principle of "respect for truth and peace" that Arman Rustamyan refers to in his letter to Howard Berman, which the ARF seems to apply on an "as needed" basis.

[thanks to informative dialogue between Bruce Tasker and Ani on Khosq for bringing some of the references to my attention]

to open border with them is double standard and almost "boderline suicide for us"...we need border open to import/export goods and services, but it would be that any and all turGAYS can come flooding into Hayastan whenever they please. which would mean an influx of them being paid by turGAY to go into Hayastan to settle in and then one family turns to 10, 10 to 100, 100 to 1000, and so on and so on, soon 9 out of every 10 Hays will want to leave not because of economy, but because our homeland is full of scum donkey raping genocidal turGAYS. these turGAYS/azerGAYS have so many agents in Hayastan now, to open border with either side would be giving them OPEN SEASON to flood our homeland with more of their agents. this is very dangerous idea we are tredding on, i want open borders so that Hayastan can succeed, but i want with conditions that NO turGAYS can come in and out as they please. we can over there, but they cannot come to us. 9 out of every 10 Hays will go and come back, where as we know dam well JEWtp and his cronies will see to it that turGAYS can come to stay in Hayastan and then you'll see our borders disappear very gradually

today open borders
tomorrow one turGAY/azerGAY nation
it is becuz of us that they dont have untiy between their borders

Monte said it best...
if we lose Artsakh, we turn our last pages on our homeland

well this is same, if we open borders, we could possibly turn our last pages on Armenia

If he were alive today and here with us, I am almost assured he would DISAGREE with opening of borders

Hayaser, compared to you, Joseph McCarthy was a level-headed moderate. You claim to be a patriot, but some of things you say are, not patriotic, but simply ridiculous, like, for example, the idea that Turkish agents are waiting for the border to be opened so that they can rush in. They're standing just outside the border in a sprinter's start position going, "Come on, come on, open that border!" As if the Turkish government can't simply issue them a truck driver's license any time and send them in with a load of cigarettes, or use any number of covers. They buy up western diplomats and academics all the time. They don't need the border to be opened.

The idea that hundreds of thousands of Turkish fanatics are going to invade Armenia and annex it to Turkey is equally paranoid. What Turkish family in their right mind would sell their home to move to an unfamiliar country that has a lot of bad blood with Turkey with the dream of one day annexing it?

I'd say that most of the Turkish nationals that would visit Armenia would be Hamshenli, Kurds, and middle-class Turks on vacation. Then Armenians can sell them "I love Yerevan" t-shirts and miniature statues of historic sites.

Well, like I said, I think opening the border would be a good thing for Armenia.

As far as the rest of your, erm, colorful response is concerned, bring it on over to my blog, and I will tear you a new one over and over again.

Tzitzernak's site deserves rational comments from sane people, not a flame war that I am indeed going to visit on your head should you take the mission of coming over to my site as I suggested.

What a shame !

That's right, I am indeed threatening to redirect the lower end of your alimentary canal away from your mouth.

That might necessitate you carrying your ass on your shoulder-blades for the rest of your life, but, hey, Turkey does have health insurance for its citizens, no?
